Eggs
Our chickens are pastured during the growing season, not cooped up. They follow the beef through the pasture, snacking on nutritious grass and insects. You will notice that our eggs have a deep orange colored yolk which is representative of the chicken’s nutritionally rich diet. Eggs that are pasture raised are higher in Omega-3’s, lower in cholesterol, lower in “bad fats”, and higher in “good fats”. What do we do in the winter? Obviously it is too cold for the chickens to be out and about most of the winter. We have an insulated hen house for them where they still receive lots of good food. We give them alfalfa hay and corn, along with other vegetables stored from the garden.
A NOTE ON AVAILABILITY We are currently trying to increase the amount of eggs we produce. It takes over 18 weeks to get a chicken from baby chic to the egg laying stage. Recently, however, we were able to find some ready-to-lay pullets (females). They should begin laying soon and we’ll be have a good constant supply of eggs. In the meantime, to ensure we have eggs for you, please call ahead. Price $2.50 per dozen |
